Since 1946 O'Brien's Inn has been known as "America's Most Scenic Dining Room". The O'Brien story began in 1911 when William O'Brien purchased the Valley View Farm. His children, Ed, age 12, and Bill, age 11, while working on the farm noticed cars always stopping at the same spot to fill their smoking radiators with water. The boys, with help from their father, opened up Valley View Snack Shop in 1918 which served hot dogs and their mother's fruit pies. By 1926 the boys saved enough money to buy the neighborhood diner to hone in their skills on running a restaurant. In 1937 the O'Brien boys broke ground on Waverly Hill to build a restaurant to accommodate 34 people. By 1946 the restaurant was so successful it was expanded over the side of the mountain. Currently, a non operational restaurant and 23 hotel rooms overlooking the Chemung River! Call for a private showing to see "Heaven on the Hilltop."
