There’s a distinctly Bohemian heartbeat to this Woodstock compound — the kind of place where every corner feels like it has a story to tell or awaits the hearing of yours. The 1850 respectfully updated, original farmhouse, with its rich hand-hewn beams, gleaming wide floorboards, and six over six windows carries the patina of time, offering warmth, charm, and the kind of character that make old homes irresistible. The early 1990’s addition expands the residence to provide alluring and flexible usage. This home is soulful, and available for those who appreciate authenticity. In the living room, with its two directions of light, an old brick fireplace anchors the space with rustic charm. The intimate, fully equipped kitchen with a natural stone seating bar & the beamed dining room feel like the heart of a true country home: Fetch, prepare and enjoy the local farmland bounty. A bluestone path leads beneath the massive trees to a woodworking shop offering yet another layer of creative opportunity. In the home, the hobby room was Harriet Tannin’s darkroom, ready to once again function as such; perhaps here is where she pioneered photo weaving. The buildings and property provide the atmosphere for your projects and expression long awaiting their and your realization. Together, these elements form a true Woodstock compound, walking distance from the celebrated Bearsville Theater Campus: An historic acoustic showcase from the ‘70s for leading artists, and revived in 2019 as a platform for ongoing musical and film venues, a unique event space, as well as local fare. The property’s three buildings shape a natural, secluded courtyard and quiet oasis. Delightfully sited on over 3.5 poetic acres with exquisite old growth trees, flowering shrubs, and adjacent to larger land, this is a place for one who sees beauty in creation, who values character and nature, and who’s been waiting to have an antique home, workspace, and creative life all in one. All this is just a few hand-picked, stone steps from a splendid 2 BR, 2 bath, Frank Lloyd Wright inspired, prairie-style home capped by an English style Tudor chimney featuring superlative brick accents. The curved, blue stone entry walkway gives pause for contemplation as you pass carefully placed perennials, a field of ferns, and majestic birch, maple, and pine trees. Poetry at every turn! Subtle architected details include a concrete plinth-to-window sill foundation and extended overhangs, creating calm and stability to an open, light-filled life. The house is surrounded by extraordinary blue stone walkways and three patios (one covered) all revealing views of mountains, water, and sky. Upon entering you'll experience this home's elegant simplicity. The tiled foyer features a hand-crafted wooden light fixture and a Wright-inspired stair post--details that elevate the home's design from the moment you step inside. The living room is surrounded by views; north to Indian Point and west for exquisite mountain sunsets. The natural world beckons you out every picture window and door. On a winter's day appreciate the outside while reading beside a centrally located and uniquely designed brick fireplace. The kitchen has rose granite counters and birds-eye maple and cherry cabinetry--and a large pantry. Entertaining is easy with a dining room that provides space for every gracious event; be it for 4, 8, 16, or 20 guests! The lake and views continually serve as a backdrop as you sit with refreshments and chat with guests; or step out onto the open blue stone pergola and connect with sun, moon, and nature at any hour, in any season. A 6-zone irrigation system (on timers) effortlessly maintains the deer resistant shrubs, grasses, fields of ferns, including the raised bed and fully-fenced vegetable garden. Upstairs is the primary bedroom, a refuge for sweet dreams under the canopy of an angular roof line. A large cushioned window seat becomes a haven for intimate moments gazing into the distant mountain views just past the mini-lake. A second sky-lit bedroom shares a stylish bathroom that has a custom wood vanity, cast iron claw foot tub, and a reclaimed Carrara marble counter top. Plenty of closets and built-ins make nesting here easy. Add to all this a studio building that provides ample space for an office, artists haven/workspace, gym, or play area. Unique details, like a massive fan shaped skylight, carry over to this structure as well, giving it a lofty and alluring ambiance. There's storage galore, and space to spread out to follow your passions. The current owner uses two loft storage spaces for her artwork. This rare Woodstock parcel has plenty of room for an addition, pool, or guest house (with town approval), and is a natural palette for you to create your own compound if desired. You might never want to leave. However, you're close to skiing, hiking, shopping, great restaurants, and one of the grooviest towns in America! Wander and hike your own Catskill Park. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hidden among the trees and just seven minutes from the center of Woodstock, this 1970s contemporary feels like a private creative compound, untouched in all the right ways. Set on 2 wooded acres with the Sawkill Creek at the rear of the property, the home unfolds through a series of unexpected spaces and strong architectural moments. A dramatic sunken living room anchors the house, centered around an oversized stone fireplace and framed by walls of glass that draw the surrounding landscape indoors. The original design language remains beautifully intact throughout, offering the rare opportunity to own a true period home rather than a generic renovation. The layout is expansive and flexible with over 2,700 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and multiple gathering spaces that open naturally toward the outdoors. Off the kitchen, a tucked-away courtyard deck creates an especially inviting area for dining, entertaining, or slow summer evenings beneath the trees. A luminous 500 sq ft porch overlooks the gunite pool, while a separate studio building introduces endless possibilities: artist studio, guest overflow, workspace, movement room, or retreat space. At the edge of the property sits a whimsical treehouse tucked into the woods, adding yet another layer to the property's distinctly Woodstock character. Longtime home to Woodstock artist Lenny Kislin, the property carries a deeply creative spirit shaped over decades. An acclaimed assemblage artist, Kislin created witty and deeply poignant sculptures by bringing together carefully sourced antique components and found objects, transforming fragments of the past into works rich with meaning and imagination. His work remains integrated throughout the home and studio. Private, architectural, and rich with atmosphere, 41 Wittenberg is a rare offering. This property has genuine soul, minutes from the center of Woodstock yet entirely its own world.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The essence of Woodstock; the artists, the poets, the musicians and the creatives who have gravitated to the beautiful, iconic Catskill Mountain town, no-one embodies the original spirit of Woodstock more than local artist and environmentalist Calvin Grimm. Every home tells a story. This custom built home.tucked away on 2 private acres with mountain views on a dead end lane speaks volumes. Technically a 1 bedroom/ 2 bathroom listed on county records with climate controlled, working art studio. This labor of love Calvin created over 5 decades, reflects his artistry, his ingenuity and simply his dear love for this place. Calvin's maternal grandparents would summer in Woodstock and eventually Calvin would as well, beginning when Calvin was just a few weeks old. In the 1960's before the infamous concert put Woodstock on the global map, Calvin was in his early twenties with just enough to purchase his own parcel of land. When he came upon this special spot full of rock outcroppings, mountain laurel and maple tucked on the side of the mountain overlooking Mt.Guardian he knew he was home. And there Calvin's own story with this land began. Calvin was from a. lineage of fine furniture makers and believed ''form follows function'' and as he built each part of his home he would go back to that philosophy. There was a 250 year old barn in Wilson State Park available for repurposing and there began the footprint of this unique, singular home. As Calvin did not have a sawmill he used an old time method of cutting the wood with a tool called an adz. And when we use the term hand built we mean it in the truest sense. He repurposed the wood and hand hewn beams from the barn as well as the Vosburg Turning Mill at the foot of Hutchin Hill, which are the framework of this light filled, warm home. Calvin used Chestnut hardwood floors throughout. He sourced plexiglass panels for the skylights from the Kingston Ford Dealership that they had used to build a dome to showcase their cars as he wanted to bathe the stairs in light. A friend told Calvin of an original cast iron sink that was available in Long Island and he drove down to get it. It is the centerpiece of his country kitchen with updated appliances but still the authentic feel in tact. Each frame, each corner, each board was carefully sourced over time. As Calvin described building the stairs he described it as an evolution with each step, without a plan but rather going back to the old adage ''form follows function''. And as every artist needs, he built a wall of windows south facing overlooking views of Mt. Guardian. Simultaneously he designed and built his studio with the same locally sourced materials where he would spend the next 50 years producing his art that can be seen all over the world. A bluestone walkway with rock outcroppings and a native plant pond connects the two structures. He mixed classic amenities like the clawfoot tub with more modern updates like the efficient mini splits throughout but still utilized his wood burning stove that is equipped to keep the whole home warm. Walking among his artwork and other artists who he has showcased on his land over the years, one feels like you are experiencing time in Woodstock that isn't easily accessible anymore. Calvin not only was a prolific artist but also an ardent environmentalist. He was on the forefront of helping to preserve Overlook Mountain and cherished the natural beauty the Hudson Valley offers. His land and the world he created here is a testament to that adoration. This home is truly one of a kind and just to walk it's land and it's rooms one feels the love and the craftsmanship. Minutes to the center of Woodstock yet a world a way. This property is the quintessential upstate sanctuary.
